MEDIA ALERT, Brussels, 29 March 2013
Taking place on 30 May – 1 June 2013 in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana; the annual congress of the European intellectual disability movement will look at the challenges faced by ageing persons with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Due to an increasing life-span, the number of older persons with intellectual disabilities and their ageing families is expected to grow sharply. The 2013 ‘Europe in Action’ conference will carefully analyse the inherent challenges of active ageing with an intellectual disability and facilitate the exchange of good practices to address the support needs of seniors with intellectual disabilities.
Building upon experiences from different European countries, the conference seeks to define inclusive policies needed to ensure that seniors with intellectual disabilities and their ageing families can maintain an appropriate quality of life within their communities.
Inclusion Europe’s annual conference is organised in collaboration with Zveza Sožitje, the Slovenian National Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities and their Families, which celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The conference will be complemented by a number of side events:
- Strategic Policy Seminar for Leaders of the Inclusion Movement on CRPD Monitoring on 29 May 2013
- A European Conference on the Future of Easy-to-Read in Europe on 29 May 2013
- General Meeting of the European Platform of Self-Advocates on 30 May 2013
